The Chicago Blackhawks were done in by another poor first period.
It did not help that the referees and the NHL replay group missed two calls in the Hawks 6-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks.
Those two blown calls would have taken two Vancouver goals off the board and the game would have had a tighter feel.
However, the Hawks probably would have still lost since they allowed the Canucks to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. Terrible starts seem to be a theme with this team this season.
If the Hawks hope to have a better record this year, they must get out of the gate quicker.
Still, two goals counting when they should have been disallowed did not help the Hawks. The Canucks third goal should have been wiped out due to offsides. Had that been taken off the board, the Blackhawks would still be down a goal.
The NHL provided their reasoning for allowing the goal to stand.
NHL situation room explanation on the no offside call: "It was determined that Vancouver’s Kiefer Sherwood legally tagged up at the blue line before he played the puck in the offensive zone prior to Danton Heinen’s goal." #Blackhawks https://t.co/HECovbTuqg pic.twitter.com/Op43O93VN9

Camera angles seem to show otherwise, but the missed too many men on the ice call was the one that killed the Hawks' comeback attempts.
The Blackhawks were able to cut the Canucks lead back down to a goal in the first period. Had the officials caught the extra skaters as Vancouver was scoring would should have been a disallowed goal, and the Hawks would have stayed a goal down heading into the first admission.
I stand corrected: Vancouver had SEVEN players on the ice prior to scoring their fourth goal. The officials missed it. Chicago's bench was irate. #Blackhawks pic.twitter.com/TJpYqXeIiZ

Those missed calls are not the reason the Hawks lost the game.
It was still frustrating for the Hawks to try to play through. It cannot be easy to keep skating when the league does not respect the team.
Foligno on the missed Too Many Men call: "They screwed up. They know that. I just don't understand why they all were seeing it and they didn't want to call it at the time. That was the only thing, and I just didn't like his response at the time. But he owned it after."

The Blackhawks had difficulty hiding their frustration after those missed two calls. It is something head coach Luke Richardson felt hurt the club during the rest of the game.
Luke Richardson on the offside challenge: "From our view, it looked offside. Agree to disagree."

Said the team needs to handle moments like that like professionals and move on quicker.
No one was more frustrated than Connor Bedard. Maybe the phenom was upset with the lack of goals he has scored to start the season.
Bedard has been good at dishing out assists. He has six assists but just one goal during the season's early goings. Bedard and Teuvo Tervainen have been excellent at creating scoring opportunities. You can tell Connor wants to see more of his shots reach the bank of the net.
Avoiding slow starts is the main issue the Hawks must fix rather than letting their emotions get the best of them. Avoid that and two blown calls would no longer matter.
