The Chicago Blackhawks received very positive news today, as top prospect Anton Frondell will be making his way to Chicago after Djurgarden was eliminated from the Swedish Hockey League playoffs.

Frondell enjoyed a strong campaign overseas, amassing 21 goals and 30 points in 46 games of combined regular season and playoff play. Notably, he is the first 18-year-old to reach the 20-goal mark in his respective league since Daniel Sedin did it in 1999. Anton also impressed at the World Juniors, where he was a key part of Sweden's gold-medal run, recording five goals and eight points.

While the playoff exit is unfortunate for Frondell's SHL team, it clears the way for the Swedish forward to transition to the NHL level as Blackhawks fans await his highly anticipated debut with the club.
What kind of impact should be expected out of the 2025 third overall pick for the remainder of this season?

Frondell has the tools to be an immediate impact player

While the switch from the European-style game to the North American-style game can be quite an adjustment for most players, Frondell appears primed to make a smooth transition. He has the tools in place to be an effective player on day one.

Frondell may not be the quickest or flashiest player in his draft group, but he knows how to play the game the right way. By that, he does not sacrifice the defensive side of the game for offensive production. Frondell uses his high hockey IQ to his advantage; he rarely makes mistakes and knows where to position himself on both ends of the ice.

With that being said, the aspect of Frondell's game that is most enticing to this Blackhawks team is his dangerous shot. Anton arguably has the best shot of his class with a release that has been a problem for opposing goaltenders to handle. This is most prevalent on the power play, where Frondell uses his elite one-timer as a weapon with the extra man. The thought of what he can do on special teams with Bedard is exciting for Chicago.

Another option that Frondell provides is the ability to play both center and wing. While he was drafted as a center, he spent more time playing on the wing for his Djurgardens squad this season. On a Blackhawks team that has seen Bedard and Nazar function as the top two centers all year, it is more likely Frondell draws into the lineup on the wing beside one of them.

In terms of what Frondell can do this season, one has to think he will have every opportunity to showcase his talent. This Chicago team is the youngest in the NHL after selling at this year's trade deadline. With Frondell and Boisvert coming into the fold to end the year, the mantra for the rest of the campaign has to be letting the kids cook.

Frondell should play in the top six and get looks with Bedard up front. He will definitely be featured on the power play as well with the shot he possesses. He will immediately have weapons at his disposal.

It will be fun to watch what Frondell can do for the remainder of this season with about a month left in the year. Frondell is expected to debut at some point on the road trip next week, giving him around 12 games to work with. Beyond 2025-26, he will be one of the most important players for this franchise to build around, as he projects to be a core piece of the future
