Chicago Blackhawks Are 2016 Stanley Cup Favorite

Another season is about to begin in the NHL and the road is very long until we reach the finale in early April just to begin the 2 month odyssey that is the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Of course what fun would it be if we didn’t take a quick look into where Las Vegas thinks the Chicago Blackhawks and the rest of the NHL will finish this season when it’s all said and done.  Of course looking at the odds doesn’t mean anything in the end unless the team actually hoists the Stanley Cup.  For years from 2010-2014 the betting favorite at the beginning of the season was always Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins, but in the end they never produced the Stanley Cup as the favorite.

It’s interesting with the odds as we open up the season that the Chicago Blackhawks are still at the very top and the Vegas betting line favorite to win it all again even with all of the changes on their roster. The other note of interest is that even though they missed the playoffs last season, Vegas isn’t going to lose a whole lot if the LA Kings bounce back and win the Cup since they are the third highest odds in the bunch.

Of course if you want to just throw money away at a long shot, the Arizona Coyotes are a 500/1 bet to win the Stanley Cup, and if you watched a minute of their preseason you know why they are ranked at the very bottom. So here are the current odds to win the Stanley Cup. So let’s take a quick look at the 2015-2016 odds to win the Stanley Cup.

The other odds to look at is of course the Hart Trophy for MVP and even though the Blackhawks have the best Captain and winner in the NHL in Jonathan Toews he’s nowhere near the top in the Hart Trophy odds race (which is fine by me, keep winning Stanley Cups)

The MVP Odds are as follows from Bovada

  1. Sidney Crosby 7/2
  2. Alex Ovechkin 6/1
  3. John Tavares 17/2
  4. Jamie Benn 10/1
  5. Steven Stamkos 10/1
  6. Carey Price 10/1
  7. Tyler Seguin 11/1
  8. Claude Giroux 12/1
  9. Evgeni Malkin 15/1
  10. Ryan Getzlaf 18/1
  11. Conner McDavid 18/1
  12. Jonathan Toews 25/1

The odds for the Calder Trophy for MVP are of course stacked in Conner McDavid (4/7) and Jack Eichel’s (4/1)  favor, but Artemi Panarin is in the mix 6th at 14/1.

Duncan Keith is fourth in the Norris Trophy odds at 13/2 trailing Drew Doughty, Erik Karlsson, and P.K. Subban while Corey Crawford is way down the list in the Vezina trophy odds behind the usual suspects in Carey Price and Henrik Lundqvist.

Remember if you do bet do it responsibly, but we just look at the odds this time of year to see how right and how wrong Vegas can be at predicting the future!

Do you like seeing the Blackhawks as the favorite? What bet do you think is the best value out there this season?
