NHL insider Frank Seravalli recently released his top fifty unrestricted free agents list for the upcoming NHL offseason, and featured are some highly talented players who should be on the Chicago Blackhawks radar.
After failing to meet the expectations placed on the team this season by players and management alike, it feels apparent that some big changes are to be in store this offseason. The first changes have already taken place with an influx of young players being called up to the NHL squad, which has resulted in a more competitive product.
While the youth movement has been entertaining to watch, the team is still in need of another high-end offensive piece to carry some of the weight placed on Connor Bedard throughout this season and last.
The Blackhawks have over forty-seven million dollars in cap space at this time, giving them plenty of room to make a big splash and bring in a player who could move the needle for them.
Seravalli's board features three forwards who could meet the Blackhawks' requirements.
Brock Boeser
Trade rumors of the Canucks looking to move Boeser feel like they have gone on for years now, and it looks as though the two parties will separate come July first.
Boeser's 2023-24 season saw him eclipse a career-high in goals (40) and points (73), but has regressed alongside the rest of the team with only 46 points in 68 games.
Boeser is a talented offensive player and a gifted goal scorer who has experienced many changes during his time in Vancouver, many of which have garnered league-wide media attention. In another season where the Canucks have been in the media frequently for potential locker room issues, it is clear that Boeser's struggles are not indicative of what he is capable of in the NHL.
The 28-year old Minnesota native has a natural goal scoring ability that would be a valued addition to the Blackhawks roster. Many of the young players seem to be more so pass-first whereas Boeser can bring a shoot-first mentality to the top six. He also proved during the 2024 playoffs to be a big-time performer after posting 12 points in 12 games despite missing the team's final game due to a blood clot in his leg.
With Boeser's dip in production and the potential injury risk will play a role in determining what he can earn on the open market, but the Blackhawks could nonetheless be a team that makes sense as a landing spot for Brock Boeser.
