First impressions are important, and Ben Johnson and the Bears are showing just that in the preseason—something the Blackhawks should aim to emulate.

As the Chicago Blackhawks turn their eyes to September, preseason hockey will finally be on the front of everyone's mind. When the Hawks take to the ice, they will do so under a new head coach looking to bring a fresh perspective to the team.

Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill will need to make a good first impression on Chicago—something Bears head coach Ben Johnson has been doing the past few weeks.

On Sunday night, the Bears beat the Buffalo Bills 38-0 at Soldier Field—not bad for Johnson's second preseason game and first with starters. Johnson and the Bears are hitting the ground running, with the team setting the tempo in training camp of how they want to play in the regular season, and the Blackhawks need to do just that as well next month.

Blackhawks Head Coach Jeff Blashill can learn a thing or two from Ben Johnson and the Bears.

Late last week, Jeff Blashill visited Halas Hall to meet Johnson and see a little of training camp. Both coaches are entering their first year in the Windy City and both fan bases have to hope they will each find a way to take two struggling franchises and make them competitive again this season.

Johnson definitely comes to Chicago with more optimism then Blackhawks fans have for Blashill. But Blashill has a chance to change some minds when the Hawks take to the ice within a matter of weeks.

Blashill needs to bring the same intensity to the Blackhawks that Johnson is bringing to the Bears. Throughout Connor Bedard's first two seasons in the NHL, the Hawks have struggled to stay in games and compete night in and night out, but hopefully, Blashill can help change that narrative this year. There is a good chance he can have a positive impact on a lot of the players on the roster, including five guys in particular.

The Hawks and Bears have two young generational talents in Bedard and Caleb Williams, respectively, and now it is up to this next generation of coaches to get the most out of their star athletes.
