The IIHF World Championship is in full swing in Switzerland, but it has caused a bunch of headaches for Chicago Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson. First, Teuvo Teravainen suffered an undisclosed injury in Finland’s opening game after racking up a pair of primary assists. While the injury isn’t believed to be serious, it ended the veteran forward’s tournament.
Now, over the past 24 hours, both Anton Frondell and Oliver Moore suffered injuries in tournament play. This is giving Blackhawks fans PTSD from when Kirby Dach broke his wrist in a pre-tournament game for the 2021 World Junior Championship. Thankfully, these two injuries are nowhere near as serious.
Frondell Injury Update
It took Frondell three games before he was finally inserted into Sweden’s lineup. I believe some of that had to do with the team waiting for Anaheim Ducks center Leo Carlsson’s decision whether he was going to play or not. The Blackhawks' young forward responded with two assists in his first game.
However, he injured his left hand or wrist in his second game on Friday. He banged his hand while skating past Italy’s open bench door and did not return to the game.

Frondell was kept out of today’s game against Norway, but The Athletic’s Scott Powers is reporting that the Blackhawks aren’t concerned that the injury is serious. That’s fantastic news!
Moore Leaves Game
Team USA’s gold medal defense at the World Championship has not gone as planned. They fell to 1-3-1 after their 4-2 loss to Latvia today. Moore picked up a primary assist on Matthew Tkachuk’s goal to give him three helpers in the tournament.

Moore also left the game after a hard check into the boards during the second period, but did return for the final frame. So, it looks like the worst-case scenario has been avoided with both Frondell and Moore. Let’s get everyone home healthy, so they can be ready for the start of training camp in September.
