Morning Chirps: Keith returning to the ice, Teuvo gets some time with the Cup

A new work week begins as we inch closer to the start of training camp in September. August is nearly here, which means fall is just around the corner!

Blackhawks Chirps

• Justin Lynch says Kyle Davidson completed his successful offseason with the signing of Patrick Kane.

• Jeremiah Lee wrote about the real reason Kane decided to return to the Blackhawks.

• The World Junior Summer Showcase kicked off in Windsor, Ontario with a pair of games on Sunday. Mason West dressed for Team USA Blue’s 4-1 loss to Finland, but did not find the score sheet. 2026 draft pick Samu Alalauri did not play for Finland.

• On Aug. 21, Zdeno Chara will host Zee’s Final Shift in his native Slovakia. The special game includes a roster of legendary players. Marian Hossa was one of the first players announced, as he is close friends with Chara. Now, Hall of Fame defenseman Duncan Keith will make the trip over to participate in the festivities. Other participants include Jaromir Jagr, Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, Anze Kopitar, and Ray Bourque.

• Teuvo Teravainen joined former teammate Sebastian Aho for his day with the Stanley Cup in Oulu, Finland.

• Blackhawks Birthday Roll Call, July 27: George Allen, Bob Hoffmeyer, and Andrew Desjardins.

NHL Chirps

• Evgenii Dadonov is still on the free agent market, but it’s starting to feel like his NHL run is coming to an end. He had only one goal in 24 games for the New Jersey Devils last season, and he hasn’t gained a lot of interest this summer. Artur Khairullin is reporting that the KHL’s Shanghai Dragons could be looking to bring in the 37-year-old winger.

• Yesterday, we discussed a report out of Russia that a Kirill Marchenko trade was nearing. However, Aaron Portzline, who covers the Columbus Blue Jackets for The Athletic, responded to that by saying “nothing is happening” on the Marchenko trade front. Stay tuned.

• Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman used this summer to throw as many band aids at his goaltending problem as possible. Tristan Jarry is back for another full season after being acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins last year. He also signed veteran Frederik Andersen and traded for Devon Levi. The Athletic’s Alan Mitchell writes that Jarry is Bowman’s “first choice to fix the position.” He posted a .858 save percentage in his 19 games for the Oilers, so good luck with that. Since Levi is no longer waivers-exempt, they might be forced to carry three goaltenders, which is never ideal.
