Hopefully we all woke up morning with all 10 fingers and 10 toes after a night full of fireworks. Pour yourself a fresh cup of coffee and enjoy today’s Morning Chirps.
Blackhawks Chirps
- We celebrated the 4th of July yesterday by putting together a full lineup of the best American players to ever wear a Blackhawks uniform.
- Bowen Byram’s unreal run of life-changing events kept on rolling. After being traded to the Blackhawks, getting married, and signing a huge contract extension within a week of each other, his wife. Kaily posted on her Instagram that the couple is expecting twins in November. Congratulations!
- Blackhawks Birthday Roll Call, July 5: Ron Ingram, Doug Wilson, Michal Sykora, Lucas Carlsson, and Aku Raty.
NHL Chirps
- The Nashville Predators signed Mavrik Bourque to a six-year, $33 million contract. Bourque was acquired from the Dallas Stars last week, along with defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin, for a second- and third-round pick. New general manager Chris McFarland has had a nice offseason with this move as well as bringing in Ross Colton, Jack Drury, Adam Enstrom, and Nils Hoglander.
- According to David Pagnotta, Kirby Dach’s name has come up in trade talks. He added that Dach is likely being dangled by the Montreal Canadiens to acquire another center. He’s coming off another injury-plagued season in which he missed 45 games.
- We’ve heard rumblings that Claude Giroux is returning to the Philadelphia Flyers. There was a report a few days ago that he was heading to the Edmonton Oilers. The veteran forward is still an unrestricted free agent, and according to Bruce Garrioch, several teams have shown interest in him. He believes the Flyers, Ottawa Senators, and Toronto Maple Leafs are among the teams still in the running. Mark Spector reported that the Oilers are no longer pursuing Giroux.
- Elliotte Friedman reported that the Seattle Kraken have agreed to trade Shane Wright this offseason. The 22-year-old has underachieved in his career so far, but should garner plenty of interest. I wouldn’t hate the Blackhawks bringing him in, as they could move Frank Nazar to the wing and have Wright center the third line.
- The Oilers signed Shakir Mukhamadullin to a two-year, $3.5 million contract. This is the third organization the 24-year-old defenseman has already played for. He was a 2020 first-round draft pick of the New Jersey Devils, but he was part of the 2023 trade with the San Jose Sharks for Timo Meier. Last week, he was traded to Edmonton for Darnell Nurse.
- NHL Birthday Roll Call, July 5: Frank Eddolls, John LeClair, Chris Gratton, Trent Hunter, Alexandre Picard, Alexander Radulov, Cam Talbot, Dwight King, Danton Heinen, Elmer Söderblom, and Fraser Minten.
