Morning Chirps: Young Blackhawks take in Bears game; Predators still negotiating with top RFA

The Chicago Blackhawks had plenty of representation at Soldier Field last night. Meanwhile, a division rival is still looking to lock down one of their talented young forwards.

Most of the Windy City was watching football last night, including five members of the Chicago Blackhawks. Hopefully, their opening night goes better in a few weeks. More importantly, the team’s prospect squad takes the ice tomorrow ahead of their busy weekend. Hockey is almost back!

Blackhawks Chirps

  • The Blackhawks released their roster for the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase. Even with the college and European prospects missing, they are bringing a talented squad with them to St. Paul this weekend.
  • I had a little fun for the start of the Chicago Bears season yesterday. I compared six current Blackhawks to players from the ’85 Bears, as they celebrate the 40th anniversary of winning Super Bowl XX.
  • There was plenty of Blackhawks representation at Soldier Field last night. Jim Cornelison did what he does best and sang the national anthem before kickoff.
  • A group of young Blackhawks was on the field ahead of the game. Landon Slaggert, Nolan Allan, Ethan Del Mastro, Colton Dach, and Alex Vlasic took in some NFL action. Unfortunately, the Bears did what they do best and blew a second-half lead in a 27-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
  • On this date in 2017, Blackhawks Hall of Fame defenseman Pierre Pilote died at the age of 85. Pilote captained the Blackhawks for seven of his 13 seasons. He won the Stanley Cup in 2013 and won the Norris Trophy three times.

NHL Chirps

  • The Nashville Predators and restricted free agent Luke Evangelista have yet to come to a contract agreement. Nick Kieser of Lower Broad Hockey reports that both sides are working on a bridge deal between one and three years. The 23-year-old winger had 10 goals and 32 points in 68 games last season.
  • Carolina Hurricanes star forward Seth Jarvis told reporters that the rehab of his shoulder injury has gone great. He elected not to have surgery despite dealing with the issue for two straight offseasons. He scored 32 goals and 67 points in 73 games last season.
  • Former Blackhawks prospect Jalen Luypen has signed with the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays. The 2021 seventh-round pick had 12 goals and 34 points in 120 games over three seasons with the Rockford IceHogs.
  • NHL Birthday Roll Call, Sept. 9: Bob Baun, Nelson Pyatt, Kevin Hatcher, Mattias Ohlund, Keith Yandle, Michael Eyssimont, Brett Berard, and Luke Hughes.
