It’s a back-to-work edition of Morning Chirps. This week’s theme across the FanSided network of NHL sites is cities and stadiums, so be on the lookout for some unique content.

Blackhawks Chirps

  • We don’t know how many games Connor Bedard will miss to start the season, but Gail Kauchak says it won’t matter when it comes to reaching this personal milestone.
  • Patrick Kane has already reached a ton of milestones in his Hall of Fame career, and Brooke LoFurno looks at some more he should hit in his first season back with the Blackhawks.
  • Our Blackhawks Number History continued with numbers 21-25, which included one of the easiest and most difficult choices of the series.
  • That organ music means only one thing: a brand new episode of the Second Balcony!
  • We discussed the many jersey options for Chicago hockey fans these days on this CHGO Blackhawks Mini-Podcast
  • Blackhawks Birthday Roll Call, Aug. 17: Georges Bocher, Chico Maki, Nelson Emerson, and Troy Brouwer.

NHL Chirps

  • The NHL Network released its list of the top 10 goaltenders in the league right now. It’s not surprising that Blackhawks netminder Spencer Knight was not included. Dan Vladar of the Philadelphia Flyers at No. 8 might be the most unexpected ranking. We’ll see if a big season from Knight will get him on next year’s list.
  • If the Steve Yzerman era of Detroit Red Wings hockey could be described in one phrase, it would be “close, but no cigar.” It feels like they always come up short of acquiring the big free agent or pulling off the big trade. Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press reported that they had a deal in place to bring back free-agent forward Anthony Mantha, but it fell through while they waited for ownership approval. He later signed with the New Jersey Devils instead.
  • The New York Rangers are in a strange spot, as they have traded away a good portion of their veteran core over the past couple of years. The Athletic’s Vincent Mercogliano points out that they only have four forwards signed beyond this season and can use this as an opportunity to reshape their core. He says they should use their salary cap space to lock up Gabriel Perreault long-term.
  • NHL Birthday Roll Call, Aug. 17: Jim Dorey, Pete Peeters, Jamie Macoun, Don Sweeney, Eric Boulton, David Legwand, Jake Virtanen, and Dysin Mayo.
