The Chicago Blackhawks landed Anton Frondell with the third overall pick, adding some forward depth to the Blackhawks organization and landing Connor Bedard his much-needed dynamic duo.
After the Hawks' selection, the Utah Mammoth took to the stage at the decentralized NHL Draft and landed a player who could torment the Blackhawks for years to come.
The Utah Mammoth's selection of Caleb Desnoyers could be the Blackhawks next great headache.
The Utah Mammoth and Chicago Blackhawks seem to be on similar timelines. Utah and Chicago are both bolstering their teams, looking to one day become true contenders in the NHL, and the Mammoth's selection of Desnoyers with the fourth overall pick brings them that much closer.
A relentless forechecker able to bring a higher level of physicality to his game, Desnoyers is someone built for the big moments in the NHL. The young forward joins the Mammoth already filled with star power, including Logan Cooley, Clayton Keller, Dylan Guenther, and the recent addition of JJ Peterka, who also would have looked nice in a Blackhawks uniform.
With Utah bringing Desnoyers on board, the Blackhawks' divisional opponent could form a nice rivalry in the coming years.
The same is true for other teams like the San Jose Sharks. The Blackhawks were close to bringing in Macklin Celebrini first overall last summer, but Chicago landed the second overall pick. The same was true this year with Michael Misa and the Hawks' eventual selection of Anton Frondell.
In a couple of years, the Hawks and Sharks could have a big rivalry on their hands with both teams looking at the other and wondering what could have been if the ping pong balls fell differently at the draft lottery.
As the draft continues to unfold, keep an eye on some of the other big rivals to the Hawks. Nashville brought in Brady Martin with the fifth overall pick and the St. Louis Blues are on the clock later this round with the 19th overall selection.
