The Chicago Blackhawks thus far this season are seeing positive results from their rebuild. After ending the past two seasons near the bottom of the Western Conference standings, the Blackhawks look to be trending in the right direction, thanks in part to the play by superstar Connor Bedard.
This past Tuesday, Bedard helped Chicago pick up a huge 7-3 win over the Ottawa Senators as he recorded his first career hat trick. Entering Thursday night's game against the winnipeg Jets, Bedard has six goals, six assists, and 12 points in 10 games.
Bedard has said he wants to help the team win now. After the win over the Senators, Bedard let it be known that he wants to play for Team Canada in the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Connor Bedard 'would do anything' to play for Team Canada in 2026 Winter Olympics
“Of course, if that’s something that I get to do, that would be unbelievable, and I would do anything to be on that team,” said Bedard, h/t TSN. “But I’m trying to take things day by day and have fun playing in the NHL and trying to grow as a team and win hockey games and do everything I can to play my best hockey. In the end, that’ll be what puts me in a spot to make it.”
Once Bedard entered the NHL in 2023, he was expected to be one of the league's next big stars. That meant being a multi-time All-Star and potential league MVP. Plus when the Olympics rolls around, he would be one of the main stars for Canada in the future.
As every hockey fan knows, Team Canada is the favorite in any international competition, due in fact to the star power across the league. For 2026, there are some big names that can be considered locks such as Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, and Nathan MacKinnon. There are also other stars across the league that could make the roster, such as Mitch Marner, Sam Bennett, and Brad Marchand.
Considering that, it's not going to be easy for Bedard to make the roster. In fact, NHL.com's Derek Van Diest and Mike Zeisberger had Bedard missing the cut for Team Canada. But the decision falls upon Doug Armstrong, the general manager for Team Canada, who has until Jan. 1 to officially announce the roster.
Bedard isn't the only player in contention to make an Olympic roster. Frank Nazar is making a case to clinch a spot on Team USA, as he's scored five goals and recorded six assists for 11 points in 10 games played. Much like Bedard with TeamCanada, Nazar does face long odds of making Team USA.
Bedard wants to make it onto the Team Canada roster. Considering how much time is left until decision time, he could very well make a strong case if he keeps up his play.
