The Chicago Blackhawks have another prospect who will be in the Frozen Four.

Ryan Greene's Boston University advanced to St. Louis after the Terriers beat Cornell in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals. Aidan Thompson will join him on the other side of the bracket after Denver beat Boston College on Sunday.

While it is nice to see Greene and Thompson go for a championship, from the Blackhawks' standpoint, it would have been great to see their schools get eliminated from the NCAA Tournament.

Sorry, Boston U. and Denver fans, it is not personal, it is just business.

The Hawks are currently benefiting from Minnesota's surprise elimination that allowed top prospects Oliver Moore and Sam Rinzel to sign their entry-level contracts with enough time to get some NHL experience.

Since the Frozen Four is April 10th, Thompson joins Greene as a prospect who just will not have enough time to sign an entry-level deal and get a cup of coffee with the team.

It is not the end of the world for Thompson's development that he is playing for another championship.

It just would be nice for him to get some NHL experience when the Hawks are closing out a lost season. It helped Frank Nazar and Landon Slaggert last season.

It would have been good for Thompson and Greene too.

However, the Hawks will have to wait on Thompson to consider turning pro much like they are going to have to do the same with Greene.

Thompson is not highly regarded as Greene, but he is still considered a good prospect.

He just missed getting ranked in the Athletic's prospect expert Scott Wheeler's top 15 Blackhawks prospects list (a subscription is required to access content linked).

CHGO Mario Tirabassi rated Thompson as a level three prospect in his prospect pyramid. That designation is reserved for a player who projects to have a productive NHL career.

Thompson is a junior whom the Hawks took in the third round of the 2022 draft. The forward has 20 goals and 34 assists on the season.
