One of the biggest stories heading down the final stretch of games for the Chicago Blackhawks is Anton Frondell’s debut.

Insider Frank Seravalli dropped a major update on Frondell’s NHL debut, signaling that the Blackhawks’ game against the New York Islanders on Tuesday night is the night the Swedish prospect makes his NHL debut with the Blackhawks.

However, travel issues may delay Frondell’s much-anticipated first appearance. According to Servalli, Frondell will travel from Sweden to North America on Monday. That would put him on track to play on Tuesday night. But if he can’t travel on Monday, he’d be flying to North America on Tuesday. In that case, Frondell would suit up on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Flyers.

But there are plenty of expectations surrounding Frondell’s debut, in particular, where he could fit into the lineup.

Frondell to start on Blackhawks’ top line

As Seravalli noted, Frondell will likely start on the Blackhawks’ top line playing alongside Connor Bedard.

“So, the expectation is that Anton Frondell will begin on the wing, but the fun wrinkle to that is he would likely start on Connor Bedard’s line to open things up.”

The rationale behind this move would be to ease Frondell’s transition into the NHL. Plus, head coach Jeff Blashill wants to see how a Bedard-Frondell combo could look like moving forward.

But playing on Bedard’s wing won’t be the only place Blackhawks fans could see the former third-overall pick from the 2025 NHL Draft. Fans could see Frondell take up another crucial lineup spot before the end of the season.

Blackhawks want to see Frondell play center, as well

As Servalli noted, the Blackhawks want to see what they have in Frondell playing center.

“I know the Hawks also want to get a look at Frondell at the center position, perhaps a little bit later in this run to close out the regular season.”

Seravalli drilled home the point about the Blackhawks wanting to see the possibilities they could get with Frondell and Bedard playing together and separately.

That situation makes it clear that the organization wants to see what they have in Frondell moving forward. The expectation would be for the 18-year-old to find his place in the Blackhawks’ lineup.

Above all, the focus is to make his transition to the NHL as smooth as possible. Whether that means he’ll be a full-time NHLer next season or not is another entirely different question.

In the meantime, fans will get a tantalizing look at one of the most talented forward prospects to hit the ice this season.
