The Chicago Blackhawks are going to be playing a different game next season now under coach Jeff Blashill, a game that might benefit Blackhawks defenseman Louis Crevier.
Louis Crevier was drafted in the seventh round of the 2020 NHL Draft, 188th overall, by the Blackhawks. Crevier at 6'8" has the size to be an absolute shut down defender for the Hawks.
Crevier leads all players from the seventh round of the 2020 NHL Draft class in games played with 56 over the course of the past two seasons.
Louis Crevier earned another contract with the Blackhawks this past season.
Crevier appeared in 32 games this past season registered 3 goals and four points during that time.
The 24 year old averaged 17:17 minutes of ice time a night this past season and took a step compared to his first look in 2023-24.
Crevier spent the majority of his time playing alongside Alex Vlasic last season. The two formed a pretty reliable shutdown unit with some incredible size.
Recently, we wrote about five players who will benefit under Jeff Blashill, and Vlasic is on the list. With Vlasic's size and defensive ability he can effortlessly shut down opponents with his stick, Crevier can do the same.
It is not that often that a seventh round pick makes an NHL roster and becomes a regular in the lineup, but Crevier looks like someone who could do just that again this upcoming season.
Crevier is currently unsigned for next season, set to hit restricted free agency this summer.
Additionally, Kyle Davidson has a number of defensemen already signed for next season, still he should consider bringing back Crevier for another year in Chicago. Davidson and the Hawks have a problem teams would envy, they almost have too many potential NHL ready defensemen. That doesn't mean they should walk away from Crevier.
Crevier showed promise in his second season. With an organization filled with top defensive prospects, Crevier earned another chance with the Hawks and really ran with it later in the year.
The Blackhawks have been building a blue line with size, and Crevier fits that mold. Hopefully he will be back for another season to play alongside Vlasic as a shutdown pairing.
