Only one way to go...

In a season where your favorite team has spent the majority of it at the bottom, it's the little things that matter (when wins don't add up to much). Lukas Reichel, the 17th overall selection in 2020, was sent down to Rockford (AHL) just 15 days ago. So how has he fared so far?

Since re-joining the Icehogs (he is a career 100+ games, 100+ points AHL veteran) Reichel has yet to hit the back of the net as a goal scorer. In 6 games, the 21 year old German forward does have 5 assits (5 assits in his last 5 games) however. More importantly though is that the Icehogs are on an amazing winning streak.

The team has gotten back into playoff contention having won 8 of their last 10 and are 5-1 with Lukas Reichel in the lineup. See below highlights from a February 16th matchup against their rival, the Chicago Wolves.

In those 6 games (with 5 wins in a row), Reichel has only been on the ice for 2 goals against and has hit his stride in terms of comfort and speed with his old (new) club. While he has yet to score a goal, he is also averaging over 2 shots on goal per game (13 in total). Reichel is a career 19.2% shooter in the AHL, so the goals are likely to start happening. With 4 points and his first multi point game in his last matchup, Reichel is now starting to get back to his game..... that being one of speed and skill.

In the latest outing, Reichel sauced a gorgeous pass to Ethan Del Mastro for an OT win. The assist would be his second of the night and showed a confident decision maker on the ice for Rockford. Reichel joining the team has added a dangerous skilled player to the mix that was sorely missing for most of the year.

With the Blackhawks season already in the rearview mirror and a Rockford team that is playing for extra games, there is no reason to believe the Hawks' organization will recall Lukas to the NHL before the season is over. The signs have been positive of late and the Piggies have been winning. Will Lukas Reichel regain his scoring touch in time for the Calder Cup Playoffs seems to be the only question remaining.
