It doesn't sound like Matthew Knies is going anywhere this summer.

Happy Saturday! Friday was not nearly as busy as the previous couple of days were, but we still saw a big trade within the Atlantic Division that saw a former Chicago Blackhawks farmhand getting some big-time security.

Blackhawks Chirps

  • Legendary captain Jonathan Toews officially retired yesterday, and we have many reasons to be thankful for his Hall of Fame career with the Blackhawks.
  • Our Ryan McGregor spoke to Connor Bedard again in Vancouver, and he asked him how his contract negotiations are going.
  • Jay Zawaski and I did our own mock drafts of the first 10 picks for next week’s NHL Entry Draft on the CHGO Blackhawks Podcast.
  • Blackhawks Birthday Roll Call, June 20: Collin Delia and Drake Caggiula.

NHL Chirps

  • The Toronto Maple Leafs made a big splash, pulling off a sign-and-trade deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning for defenseman Darren Raddysh. The 30-year-old blueliner signed an eight-year, $8.5 million contract extension before heading to Ontario. He’s coming off a career year with 22 goals and 70 points, with 10 goals and 26 points coming on the power play. While I’m happy for the former Rockford IceHogs defender, that is an insane contract to give him.
  • Maple Leafs general manager John Chayka threw a little water on the Matthew Knies trade rumors. He said that anything is possible, but a trade is “not probable.” If you look at some of the trade proposals by Maple Leafs fans, you’d think they were looking to deal 1980s Wayne Gretzky.
  • Per Kevin Weekes, the Buffalo Sabres and Zach Benson are working on a contract extension. The ESPN insider said Benson is likely to get a seven-year deal and could be identical to the one Josh Doan signed back in January, worth $48.65 million.
  • The Pittsburgh Penguins hired former Carolina Hurricanes and Seattle Kraken general manager Ron Francis as a special advisor to the hockey ops department. The Hall of Famer won back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Penguins in 1991 and 1992.
  • NHL Birthday Roll Call, June 20: Ralph Bowman, Alex Motter, Jimmy Peters, Gary Croteau, John Ogrodnick, Dave Snuggerud, Joe Corvo, Greg Pateryn, Sam Bennett, and Dante Fabbro.
