Peter Laviolette is a good Plan C for the Chicago Blackhawks' head coaching search

He has won at every stop, including hoisting the Stanley Cup when he was with the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Chicago Blackhawks were rejected by their first choice to be the team's next head coach and then they were easily beaten out for the perceived next best option. Now the team must move on to Plan C.

The University of Denver's David Carle was rumored to be the team's first choice, but he has decided to stay at the school...hopefully, because if he takes another NHL job, that would be a terrible look for the Hawks.

Then, the New York Rangers easily swooped in and hired Mike Sullivan, who was an even better candidate than Carle. Although it is unknown if the Hawks even tried to interview Sullivan.

Now the Blackhawks must sift through what is remaining on the market and compete with a bunch of their peers to land their next head coach. However, the head coaching market has a lot of attractive names.

One name that could be a good hire, even though he is a retread, is Peter Laviolette.

All Laviolette does is win before he eventually gets fired.

Laviolette has taken three franchises to the Stanley Cup Finals and won a championship with the Carolina Hurricanes two decades ago.

He was on the opposing bench in 2010 when the Blackhawks beat the Philadelphia Flyers for the Stanley Cup. He guided the Flyers there after taking over earlier in the season, and with Michael Leighton as his starting goaltender.

He coached Nashville to an easy sweep of the Blackhawks in 2017 on the way to the Predators making their first Stanley Cup Final.

Laviolette also guided the Rangers to the President's Trophy last season.

He eventually wears out his welcome, but he does a lot of winning in the process. 846 regular season victories, although he is 88-82 in the playoffs.

Considering the Hawks have not earned a playoff spot without the help of a technicality since 2017, you would take the winning Laviolette injects into any franchise he joins.

That is why it is not crazy to suggest him taking over the Blackhawks.

Although Vancouver seems like his next landing spot. Canucks president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford was running the Hurricanes when Laviolette won the Stanley Cup there.

The belief is he would be the short-term coach as the Canucks still think they can contend for a Stanley Cup because it was team chemistry issues that ruined the club this season.

The Canucks would hire Laviolette to try to win a championship and then eventually give way to the team's AHL coach, Manny Malhotra, to take over long term.

Nothing is set in stone, and if Hawks general manager Kyle Davidson determines Laviolette is the man to lead this team out of the rebuild, he should swoop in and hire the winning coach.
